Connect is a charity that currently employs 5 volunteer christian youth workers being trained by SWYM (South West Youth Ministries) in Mid Devon. Using a proven model to reach young people.
Connect began in 1996 out of a need local churches felt to reachout to young people in schools - to meet them where they are.
Connect workers operate in community colleges and youth organisations in Chulmleigh, Okehampton and Crediton. They reach out to young people by spending time with them in and out of school. In school they lead RE lessons, support teachers in various other subjects, take assemblies, and are around school at break and lunchtimes to meet up with young people and to get to know them in an informal way. They hope is to develop trusting relationships with young people and to let them see Christ in the workers.
Please pray for the workers
to be effective witnesses for Christ
for unity in the team
to know more of God's heart for young people as they develop their own relationships with him
that God will be glorified through the work of Connect
Currently the two youth workers in Chulmleigh are Kevin Smallacombe from Bow and Carrie Barone from Buffalo, New York; Ben Selent from Germany is working in Okehampton and Jamie Bruce from Monkokehampton is working with Tracy Travis from Chigago in Crediton.
