Causeway
Church is for everyone yet some people with learning disabilities find it incredible difficult to be a part of the church. That's why the Causeway group in Crediton was formed, working closely with the Care Homes and the Newcombes day centre. The closure of the day centre was a blow for many of the people concerned as it formed their main social contact. So the Causeway group started a Drop-in on Wedneday morning at the Congregational Church.
There are refreshments, games and disco music. It is staffed by members of the Congregational, Roman Catholic and Methodist churches the Congregational Church bearing the brunt of the costs. It is very popular - sometimes there are over 40 people present and the atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. Before the Drop-In we also ran a monthly service on a Thursday evening, which was relevant to the people concerned, but this has recently changed into a Fellowship Group which meets on the third Thursday of each month at the Congregational Church. It has been very rewarding to see some people joining and becoming valued members of the church. There is still a lot to be done and plenty of opportunity for anyone who would like to be involved.
